Hook: Dai-Riki 810 Sizes 6~4 or TMC 8089 Size 12
or Gamakatsu SL45 Size 4~10
Thread: Black 6/0
Dumbbell Eyes: Silver 1/8” Spirit River Dazl-Eyes
Tail: Black Marabou
Body: Dark Stone Whitlock SLF Dubbing
Hackle: Dark Brown Whiting Utility Saddle Hackle
Head: Tying Thread
Tying Instructions
1 ~ Tie in the dumbbell eyes on the top of the hook shank and 1 hook eye length in front of the hook point.
~~ Use “X” wraps and coat with Hard-as-Hull and let dry.
2 ~ The hook is then inverted in the vise for tying the rest of the fly.
3 ~ Wrap a thread base to opposite the hook barb.
4 ~ Dub an oval body to 3 hook eye lengths behind the hook eye.
~~ Be sure to figure “8” around the dumbbell eyes.
5 ~ Tie in the tail material and cut off the marabou butts.
6 ~ Tie in the hackle and wrap to the hook eye.
~~ Be sure to use some of the soft web fibers behind the hook eye.
~~ Tie in and cut off excess.
7 ~ Wrap a medium sized head forcing the hackle rearward and whip-finish.
8 ~ Optional; Apply head cement to the whip-finish.
